The metaverse is becoming more and more a part of the football world.

We're not just talking about rooms wherein you can watch the matches, but now interviews are also being conducted via the metaverse.

Inter are leading the way in Italy, with a little bit of help from publication Corriere della Sera

The Italian media outlet interviewed Steven Zhang, Inter's young owner, during an event set in the metaverse itself.

It was a brief but novel interview in which Zhang talked about how new technologies are coming to football and how they are serving to increase profits and connect with fans.

"[We are] reaching consumers on a wider scale and with greater ability than we could ever have imagined in the past," Zhang said.

"I'm sure that in 20 years' time, when we talk about a club's revenue, ticket sales or TV rights will no longer be the main categories. There will be social media, metaverse and merchandising, all completely digital.

"This is what is already happening: 10-20 percent of a club's revenue is coming from here and it is going to grow more and more."

Lukaku appears in the metaverse

Late on in the interview, Romelu Lukaku stepped in too, of course with his metaverse avatar.

"Thank you president for welcoming me back," Lukaku said. "My message to the fans is: see you soon at the San Siro [Staadio Giuseppe Meazza] to win together again.

"See you soon."
