It will also accept three bitcoin mining machines donated by industry advocacy group the Texas Blockchain Council. Three bitcoin miners worth $2,100 will be given free to the city for a six-month pilot program. It's unclear how much the city will pay to operate the machines, or if the city will receive any revenue. City representatives declined to comment ahead of Tuesday's vote.
The resolution will position the city as “crypto-friendly, welcoming to the industry and to those responsible businesses contributing to the development of this evolving technology.”
If passed, Fort Worth would join cities such as Miami and New York in seeking investments in bitcoin and other cryptocurrency technology companies.
